Yes, exactly. And still operated by the same people. It’s just recently been re-branded to give it a fresh, exciting, 21st Century feel. We’re happy for you to still refer to it fondly as “the Civic” for as long as you wish!

How do I book tickets for your shows?
By visiting our independent ticketing agent’s web site at www.computicket.com or by calling Computicket on (011) 340 8000 or 083 915 8000.
Do you give ticket discounts for groups?
Most shows at Joburg Theatre offer a discount of 10% on advertised ticket prices for groups of ten or more. Discounted tickets are only available by calling Joburg Theatre VIP Ticketing directly on (011) 877 6854.
Do you have safe parking facilities?
We provide direct-access, underground parking for a fee of R12 throughout the day on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays and from 5pm Mondays to Fridays. The parkade is accessed at the corner of Stiemens and Simmonds Streets in Braamfontein. If travelling north on Loveday Street past the front of the theatre, turn left on Hoofd Street, left again on Biccard Street and then 2nd left into Stiemens Street. You will be required to pay for your parking at the vending machines located in the theatre foyers prior to exiting the parkade.
We have limited parking available before 5pm Mondays to Fridays, accessed on Loveday Street. Our own security team is on duty 24 hours of each day throughout the complex.
Can I bring my baby to see a show?
For the comfort of all our patrons, babes-in-arms and children under three years of age are not allowed to enter the auditoria of Joburg Theatre.
Do you cater for physically challenged patrons?
We provide four wheelchair positions in The Mandela and this theatre is totally accessible for the physically challenged. These seats should be booked directly by contacting Joburg Theatre VIP Ticketing on (011) 877 6854. Row A in The Fringe is suitable for wheelchairs, but patrons will require our assistance in accessing The Fringe. Special toilet facilities are available throughout the complex for the physically challenged. Please contact our Security Managers on (011) 877 6817 to arrange dedicated parking facilities and further personalised assistance.
Do you allow the use of cell phones at the theatre?
Yes, in the foyers and other added-value facilities. However, we request that you switch off your cell phones before entering any of the theatres. If seen using your cell phone by one of our theatre attendants during a performance for any purpose (including sending of an SMS or taking a photo of the show), you will be asked to hand over your phone to the attendant until the end of the show.
Do you have a restaurant at Joburg Theatre?
Our award-winning News Café franchise is located in the ground floor marble foyer. It is open almost every day of the year for breakfasts, lunches, cocktails - and dinners prior to and after each show. However, we do recommend that you check opening and closing times prior to your visit and it is essential to reserve tables in advance for dinner before the show. Please call (011) 877 6847 for table reservations. For your own comfort and convenience, we stop taking food orders at the News Café from 60 minutes prior to show time.
Can I have a private function for a group when coming to see a show?

Could I have a tour of the Joburg Theatre complex?
