MILE HIGH with CATHY SPECIFIC

Cathy and co are back to scandalise the skies

Buckle up, ladies and gentlemen – because South Africa’s favourite flight attendant, Cathy Specific, is back with a bang and ready for comedy lift-off in Pretoria and Johannesburg this April and May.

Having recently jetted around the country with Mile High With Cathy Specific, touching down in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town to rave reviews and appreciative audiences, Brendan van Rhyn and company return to Gauteng with this hilarious musical comedy revue for the final Mile High flight so don’t miss it!!

The zany crew will be performing at the Little Theatre at Unisa in Pretoria from 7 to 24 April 2010, before heading to the Fringe Theatre at the Joburg Theatre complex from 28 April to 29 May.

The towering 1.9m-tall Van Rhyn is a sight to behold as the blonde-coiffed, stilettoed Cathy, a “trolley dolly” like no other with dreams of starring in her own Broadway musical. Van Rhyn made his name in plays such as The Judas Kiss and, more recently, starred as Frank ’N Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

A little bit saucy, a little bit naughty and utterly sensational, Cathy quips and struts her way through a variety of comedy vignettes related to the world of air travel. These coy observations about passengers and their foibles are supplemented by an array of classic musical numbers that have been mangled – tongue-in-cheek, of course – to suit the flying theme.

This dazzling dame is joined by cohorts Ryan Flynn, the talented son of Anne Power and the late Bill Flynn, who has starred as Brad in Rocky Horror as well as in other musical theatre roles, and Phumi Mncayi, a versatile and experienced stage performer who is now the new face of the Lotto TV show and has been on board Mile High – With Cathy Specific ever since its inaugural flight.

The seasoned, multi award-winning Maralin Vanrenen is in the director’s chair, having also co-written the show with Van Rhyn. Pianist extraordinaire Lolly Sonmez once again takes the reins as musical director of Mile High, which is produced by entertainment industry stalwart Warren Batchelor, who was the Executive Producer of the 2007,2008 and 2009 Miss World pageants broadcast live around the globe – so audiences can rest assured that this flight of fancy will be anything but a bumpy ride.

Critics around the country have lauded the production for its cleverness and sheer entertainment value. Far more than just a “drag show”, Mile High is a professional yet perky revue that’s as light and frothy as champagne, and just as addictive.

Proof that altitude plus attitude equals musical comedy gold, Mile High With Cathy Specific is not to be missed. Chicken or beef, anyone?.... And remember Cathy’s here “to save your ass.... not kiss it!”

First class, Business class and Premier Economy Tickets for all shows are available at Computicket. Visit www.cathyspecific.co.za for more details, or catch up with Cathy on Facebook.
